A Message from Barry: The Truth About Uncontrolled Breeding

A Message from Barry: The Truth About Uncontrolled Breeding

Oct 8, 2024

Did you know the average number of kittens per litter is 4 to 6? And a female cat can have up to three litters a year? Let’s do the maths: just one female cat with two litters a year, each producing 4 female kittens, means massive growth in population. Without desexing, a flood of kittens arrive, most never finding homes.  A small fraction of these cats will find wonderful homes however many of them will instead end up in bad situations, bad homes, be left living on the street ready to breed from 4 months or land in overcrowded shelters, face euthanasia due to behavioural issues. (That was me!) We’ll tackle the grim reality of PTS (put to sleep) another time, but trust me—it’s a topic that everyone needs to understand.  I was very close to the green dream myself!

When I was 4 months old I had my sister in my sights for breeding.  You see, cats do not  care if they share any bloodline with a partner, Mum, Dad, brother, sister, cousin, aunt, uncle……. We breed to soothe an urge not from a desire to love and reproduce.  So yeah get your head around that humans. No romance involved at all and the act lasts seconds after hours of roaming, fighting, stalking, risking one’s life and being a general PIA.

Yeah, ok kittens are cute for sure but you crazy humans tend to forget they are kittens for only months then they are cats for many years to come.  Will you still love them when they are not kittens anymore?   Cuteness doesn’t give anyone a free pass to let this breeding madness continue.  What is not cute is seeing pens full of cats waiting for homes, seeing sick kittens deemed not viable due to illness that could have been prevented, hell their lives could have been prevented, the heartache of their existence could have been prevented.   Desexing is the only humane solution with a 100% result. WHY CAN’T YOU HUMANS NOT SEE THIS YET?  Sure, adoption is great, but we can’t adopt our way out of this problem now. Cats reproduce faster than people can adopt, and unless we intervene, this cruel cycle keeps going.  I think you humans refer to this craziness as pushing shit uphill?  Yet here we are…go figure.

I’m Barry, and let’s cut to the chase. I’m not here to sugarcoat it—this is very serious. Desexing is the only way to reduce the suffering, save lives, and ease the burden on shelters and the rescue groups we rely so heavily on.  We need to get real.  If you know about this program, live in Geelong and still have not acted, change that today and fill out the form!  We are here to help your cat reach her desex dreams.  This is not about you or any story behind why you have the cat or not desexed the cat, we just want to help the cat.  Use this blessed link to fill in the form that will bring peace to their world and yours:

Cat Desexing Program & Kitten Club Program

If the council is not trapping & the wait for traps is lengthy and GAWS has limited to no space, where do you think they go?  What do you think happens to them? Why should any companion animal be born only to potentially die or left to live a dangerous life on the street, unowned, unprotected from breeding, viruses and disease, fending for themselves?  How is any of this animal welfare?

By supporting desexing programs you’re not just helping control the population—you’re saving lives and helping us support the systems around us that are clearly struggling.  It’s time to get serious. Desex your pets, spread the word, and let’s create a future where this utter nonsense ends.
