Cat Desexing Program

Providing support to low-income homes & those doing it tough

If you are here looking for help you are in the right place. If you do not fit our criteria contact the National Desexing Network ndn.org.au

Cats are companion animals that have rapid breeding ability. They can overpopulate areas right under our nose at home, in our own street, on our block or in our suburb. In less than two years a female cat, her mate, and their offspring can create numbers that only continue to explode without the intervention of desexing. It is so imported both male & females are desexed. Breeding is no way the fault of the individual cat.

Desexing obviously prevents litters of kittens however it also has HUGE BENEFITS for the health & wellbeing of your cat.

  • For females Ovarian & uterine cancer risk is eliminated as is the risk of pyometra and complications associated with pregnancy & birth. Desexing also reduces the risk of mammary cancer.
  • For males desexing eliminates the risk of testicular cancer.
  • Both females & males they can avoid fighting injuries like a bite abscess, reduce risk of contracting or spreading feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), feline leukemia virus (FeLV) or being killed on roads as they seek breeding opportunities.
  • Stresses involved with breeding diminish, behaviour improves & your companion will have a better existence with you & their surroundings.

Desexing costs less than potential cancer treatment, and treatment for any injury or pregnancy condition your cat may face if left to breed including the expenses of raising & weening kittens. Cats are not permitted to leave our local pound GAWS until desexed should he or she ever be taken there. The reclaim fee, other charges that may apply and council fines together well outweigh the cost of desexing.

  • Cats living within the City of Greater Geelong who need desexing assistance can apply for the options we can offer. Separate applications for each individual cat in your home are required.
  • As soon as we have your form you will be on our waiting list. A team member will contact you to arrange an appointment. We do work around the schedule of a busy Veterinary Clinic & at times we may need to prioritise however sit tight we will be in touch soon.
  • This program is funded from donations and sponsorship. If our funds are low, it may impact the speed we can get your cat into the clinic. Low cost, partial assistance & add on services like microchip, vaccination fees must be paid before the appointment.
