What Is Project Meow’s Kitten Club?
Our Kitten Club is built around one core belief: Care Before Homes. We ensure every kitten gets essential vet care before finding a new home—giving them the healthiest, safest start to life.
And we don’t forget Mum. We celebrate her last litter with free desexing, ensuring she’s not left to repeat the cycle. She can fall pregnant while nursing—so she matters, too. And if Dad’s around, he’s included!
What does “Care Before Homes” look like?
- Foster Care – Kittens are placed with a foster carer through Geelong Animal Rescue – GAR, where they’re nurtured, socialised, and learn the rhythms of indoor life, often alongside other pets.
- Desexing – Performed as soon as they’re big enough. Kittens can breed from 4 months old—this stops the cycle early.
- Microchipping – A lifelong ID and their voice if they’re ever lost or surrendered.
- Parasite Treatment – Fleas and worms can overwhelm tiny bodies and even be fatal.
- Vaccinations – Protection from dangerous viruses they’re unlikely to survive without intervention.
- Adoption – Applications help match kittens with loving homes. Foster carers know their personalities best, helping ensure a perfect fit—and often staying in touch with happy updates.
If your cat is nursing or expecting kittens, we can support both Mum and bubs during this time. Ask us about respite and transitional care.
Why This Program Matters
Giving kittens away too early puts them at risk. Their mum teaches them critical behaviours beyond feeding. Just because they’re nibbling food doesn’t mean they’re ready. Without vet care, they face vulnerability, neglect, or worse—and can start breeding young, repeating the cycle.
We want every kitten to have:

- A strong start in life
- A well-matched, forever home

We strongly recommend all kittens from a litter come through our program rather than be given away or kept without care.
Did You Know?
- Kittens can breed from 4 months old
- Pregnancy lasts 60–65 days
- A kitten could be nursing her own litter by 6–8 months
- Cats will breed with siblings, parents, or offspring
- Mum can fall pregnant while nursing
- Pregnancy and nursing deplete her body—she needs high-calorie kitten food
- Kittens need their mum for at least 7 weeks to learn essential behaviours
- It costs less to desex than to raise another litter
- It’s not the cat’s fault—they rely on us

This is the first step to see your cat or cats reach their desexed status this year.
PLEASE NOTE – EACH ADULT CAT REQUIRES A SEPARATE FORM TO BE COMPLETED.
We offer low-cost and even free desexing to cats of breeding age that are living in low-income homes, & cats at risk. You MUST live in Geelong, and you MUST be the owner of the cat.
We also offer microchipping at only $40, and we can do vaccinations on the day for $50. Should the cat require any additional visit to complete a vaccination schedule, the cost is approx $110 and includes an appointment with the vet in 4 weeks.
