The Project Meow Nursery provides a safe, purpose-built environment for vulnerable mums and their kittens during one of the most important stages of their lives.

Here, they have the time, care and security they need to simply do what they should be doing:

Growing. Nursing. Learning. And beginning life in safety.

A Safe Place to Begin

The earliest weeks of a kitten's life matter.

A safe environment, good nutrition, veterinary care and the opportunity to remain with mum can make an enormous difference to their health, development and future.

The Nursery provides a calm, dedicated space where mums can care for their kittens while we support the whole family through those important early weeks.

Keeping Families Together

Where possible, we believe mums and kittens belong together.

Keeping families together allows kittens to receive the nutrition, socialisation and learning that only mum can provide.

It also gives mum a safe place to raise her babies without the constant challenges she may otherwise face.

Built by Community

The Nursery exists because our community believed in what it could achieve.

Project Meow received funding through the Victorian Government's 2023-24 Animal Welfare Fund Grants Program to support the development of the Nursery, helping turn an important idea into a safe, purpose-built space for vulnerable mums and kittens.

Alongside this support, the generosity of our volunteers, supporters, local businesses, veterinary partners and wider community helped bring the Nursery to life.

It was built by community - and continues to be powered by community.

The Nursery Makes It Possible

The Nursery isn't simply a place for kittens.

It's part of Project Meow's broader approach to prevention and early intervention.

By supporting vulnerable mums and their kittens, we can respond when intervention is needed while continuing to focus on the bigger picture - preventing future unplanned litters and improving long-term outcomes.

That includes ensuring mums are desexed so the cycle doesn't simply begin again.
