About Us

Where our paws firmly stand

Supporting our feline friends

  • We are a local Geelong, officially registered Australian charity, a proactive cat desexing program focused on providing LOW-COST & FREE DESEXING for cats in Geelong.
  • We have all worked in animal welfare and very aware of the problem cats face in our community and the strain of helplessness often felt in pounds, shelters & rescue organisations.
  • We are not a vet clinic; we are a team who educate, facilitate desexing procedures & offer financial support for cat owners to see their feline friends have access to the desexing opportunities we offer.
  • We work very closely with Aberdeen Vet Clinic in Geelong West where the procedures are carried out & work around their schedule.
  • We are fiercely focused on reducing cat intake numbers needing care in our local animal welfare & animal rescue organisations.  We have all worked in that environment & believe in our program. We are about prevention & our aim is to decrease breeding.
  • We bring better outcomes to cats, their owners, our community, our environment, our wildlife & all our local animal welfare systems.
  • Additional to our desexing program is our Kitten Club Program. This provides a safe pathway for every kitten in the litter. These lucky kittens never get caught up in the vicious cycle of breeding & their Mum’s cycle ends here with FREE desexing.
  • There aren’t many easy answers or easily implemented plans for improving animal welfare in our community, but this program is certainly A KEY place to start. Desexing saves lives in more ways than you can likely imagine.
  • Safe space in shelters needs to be kept for animals with a genuine need of care.  It is sad to see the space overflow with preventable kittens & cats.

Raising money to fund these procedures is a high priority for this program to grow and succeed. If you can help in any way please donate or get in touch via email or phone.

WE ARE A CAT DESEXING PROGRAM for cats who live in the City of Greater Geelong.

WE ARE A CAT KINDNESS INITIATIVE who is passionate about the welfare of cats in our community.

WE ARE NOT A REGULAR RESCUE GROUP  therefore Project Meow cannot take surrendered adult animals, we have no facility for that – however we do know some really reputable ones we work with!

WE ARE NOT AN ADOPTION SERVICE we leave that up to the rescue groups or organizations we are networked with so our focus can remain on the prevention side of things.

Our mission

  • To raise money to offer cats in the City of Greater Geelong access to low cost and free desexing procedures. Giving priority to cats in low-income homes or at risk of breeding.
  • To help keep precious space in shelters or rescue groups free from preventable kittens & cats so the felines in need of genuine care are never put at risk. Reducing intake numbers for shelters, pounds & rescue by desexing is how this is achieved.
  • To build knowledge of our Kitten Club Program that will secure and prevent the kittens that are born or found from being given away, left entire or worse ignored & abandoned. We get them to an organization who will see them through with rehoming after desexing and essential vet work is completed. This valuable lifesaving component of our program INCLUDES the mother cat by seeing she is desexed for free as we celebrate her last litter.
  • To assist nursing mums who need be in care or need support while her kittens are growing from infant to weening stages. Our Kitten Club - "Care before homes" Program can be customized for each case.
  • To see less cats & kittens left to survive on our streets unaided with food & medical care, overpopulating our environment putting our local wildlife at such risk.
  • To support our council animal management systems with this desexing program that will continue to reduce unnecessary breeding throughout each year & provide kind humane cat control.
  • To educate the public the importance of desexing cats while affirming responsible rehoming of cats and kittens to prevent breeding, animal cruelty or displacement in our community. This is such an important lesson for children to embrace.
  • We aim to do what we can for every cat that needs to never breed again or never even start the vicious breeding cycle.
  • To develop this program & teach other groups in outer Geelong areas how to implement desexing programs for cats in their area.

1We believe every cat should have access to desexing.  This is why we offer both low cost and free desexing.

Cats living in low-income homes or have owners that are genuinely doing it tough can apply for full assistance or partial assistance where we make up the balance for you.  This is ideal for pensioners, healthcare card holders, students for example.

Other cat owners working part time or casual can apply for low cost desexing.   Females cost $220   Males $100

Each case is treated individually, and we may need to prioritize who we can help and when depending on our availability of funds.

Also available to all cats on the day of desexing is add on microchipping $40 and F3 vaccinations $50.

We believe Geelong can be the best managed cat community in Australia through our successful cat desexing program.
